THE AKA BOARD OF DIRECTORS ANNOUNCES FORMER ARIZONA CONGRESSMAN MATT SALMON HAS BEEN NAMED CHAIRMAN OF THE AMERICAN KRATOM ASSOCIATION
WASHINGTON, D.C., April 17, 2020 — Former Congressman Matt Salmon (R-AZ), who led the fight in the U.S. House of Representatives to fight the FDA’s proposed scheduling of kratom in 2016, has been named the new Chairman of the American Kratom Association (AKA).
“I am honored to accept the leadership baton for the AKA from Dave Herman who has ably led the extraordinarily successful battle to keep kratom legal as the Chairman for the past several years. Much progress has been made in advancing the science and the understanding of public policy makers on the truth about kratom, and I am ready to continue that effort going forward,” former Congressman Salmon commented.
Dave Herman elected to step down citing the challenges that will be required to oversee the effort to pass both the Federal Kratom Consumer Protection Act and continue the education at the state level on how responsible regulations are the better public policy option to ensure consumers have access to pure and safe kratom products. Herman commented: “Since I retired several years ago from my professional career, I have found the opportunities to enjoy experiences in a wide range of areas to be important, and I just don’t want to miss those going forward. The combination of age (I will shortly be 73) and being self-quarantined for well over a month because of the Coronavirus has convinced me it is time to move on. I know the AKA will be led ably by former Congressman Salmon, and I will remain an active and loyal friend of the kratom community.”
The American Kratom Association (AKA), a consumer-based non-profit organization, advocates to protect the freedom of consumers to safely consume natural kratom as a part of their personal health and well-being regimen. AKA represents the nearly 15 million Americans who consume kratom safely each year. www.americankratom.org
